People ask me, what kind of music is this? First off it is NOT polka — so if you would like to dance duple time, sorry! I thought that calling it "Afro-Polka" would reflect my musical experiences. It sounds funky. And my brother likes it.
Afro-Polka was born when I picked up some favorite Polish folk tunes that I grew up with, and arranged them using jazz and African music styles. There are also my original compositions and some jazz standards in the program.
With the Maciek Schejbal Trio's upcoming lineup of Essiet Essiet, a Nigerian-born, jazz-shaped bass master and Sam Dickey who, besides graduating from Berklee, spent months in West Africa learning ngoni and the language of music, our upcoming show on Thursday, February 2 promises to be FUN!
The venue — The Bar Next Door at La Lanterna Café — is intimate with a good sound. You can dine and drink, and you might like to reserve a table. There is a $12 cover and two drinks minimum.
Thank you for popping in! Maciek |
